Lappulas and Hackelia's are commonly called stickseeds due to the burlike seeds.

Western Stickseed, Lappula occidentalis (bur, western), growing on hillsides near Pawnee Buttes Trailhead, 5,420 Feet, May 21, 2007. Plant is 33 cm tall., leaves basal and stem,stem alternate with a distinct center vein, V shaped, length 38 mm, width 5.5 mm. Flowers are small and white with bluish cast , width 3-4 mm.
