Collegeflower, Hymenopappus flavescens, growing on top of a small limestone bluff above Wray, Colorado, June 8, 2007. Flavescens means becoming yellow. Nearby flora include Calylophus lavundifolius, Asclepias puma, Dalea villosa, delphenium carolionianum and Calylophus serrulatus. Collegeflower was also observed along roadsides in the grasslands near Wray. |

Fineleaf Hymenopappus, Hymenopappus filifolius, growing on sandy slopes above Grape Creek, near Penrose Colorado. A tributray of the Arkansas River. It is a Rayless composite, Plant height 36 cm, , leaves mostly basal with some stem, finely divided, basal length 49 mm, width 25 mm, petiole 45 mm, stem length 30 mm, width 10 mm, leaves twice pinnate. flower width 14 mm, | |||||

Unlike the above two species of Hymenopappus which were found in lower elevation environments, newberryi was growing in meadows at 9,500 feet in the Jemez mountains of New Mexico. |
